Fernando Pessoa

a chi resta
to the one who stays

PROLOGO / PROLOGUE

noi ci teniamo per mano
tra le crepe dei non ti scordar di me
come sporadiche fioriture di Marzo
nel sempreverde del ricordo
il cielo precario e torrenziale solitudine.

we stand hand in hand / among the cracks of forget-me-nots / like random blossoms of March / in the evergreen of memories / the sky uncertain solitude in full flood.

IL SALUTO / THE GOODBYE

6 luglio 2016

la lacrima lungo l’angolo
sinistro il passaggio, ogni
giorno riscorre il tuo andare
nel mio occhio in prestito

che poi cosa vuoi che sia,
la vita non è tutto.

6th July 2016
the tear across the left / corner, the aisle, every / day is your going again / to my short-term eye // but, after all, / living is not all in life.

26 giugno 2016

il reparto ha porte di lillà
perché a primavera possa rifiorire
dall’humus del lenzuolo
il grido di una rosa.

26th June 2016
the unit has lilac doors / so the howl of a rose / blooms again in spring / from the humus cloth.

——————————

22 giugno 2016

grida distanza la valigia chiusa
sentieri stellari dietro lo spigolo quotidiano
perché morire
è solo vivere a rovescio.

22nd June 2016
the shut bag yells distance / astral tracks behind the daily edge / because dying / is only living in reverse.

——————————

18 febbraio 2016

a tutto ci si abitua
al diradarsi di una chioma
ai rivoli di vena
all’odore inimitabile
che sa solo la malattia.

18th February 2016
we get used to everything / the thinning of the crown / rivulets of veins / the inimitable smell / that only disease knows.

17 maggio 2016

sfogliavamo insieme
le stelle una dozzina
di cieli stralunati tu smistavi
una costellazione
e poi d’un tratto
scorrere o il solco di un nonamore
la sorgente a rovescio
poggiasti il bicchiere
perché morire
morire è un’isola
perché morire
non è come dirlo.

17th May 2016
together we were / browsing the stars a dozen / wild-eyed skies you sorted / a constellation / then all of a sudden / overflowing or the furrow of a non-love  / the source upside down / you rested the glass / because dying / is an island / because dying / is not like saying it.

1 settembre 2014

il mio dolore s’accuccia ai piedi del tuo silenzio
che non so nulla del morire e non ti posso aiutare
vorrei tu mi placassi con una qualsiasi cosa vera
fosse anche solo il tuo nome
mentre tu di sbieco sorridi e spalmi bene,
tra le dita, la crema
ma il tuo dolore non abita qui
non ci sono vie di fuga
c’è solo andare.

1st September 2014
my sorrow kneels at the feet of your silence / for I don’t know anything about dying and I cannot help / I wish you would calm me with something real / be it just your name / while you smile askance and keep spreading / the cream among your fingers, carefully / but your sorrow doesn’t live here / there are no escape routes / there is only going away.

IL RICORDO / THE REMINISCENCE

mamma guardami la foto
quella in bianco e nero sopra il letto
la mia spalla e sopra la mia spalla
la tua mano a ripararmi il mondo

mamma inventami la vita
che prosegue i suoi colori
oltre questo scasso prematuro
nel volto acerbo del ricordo

mummy look at me in the picture / the black and white one just above the bed / my shoulder and on it / your hand sheltering me from the world // mummy invent me a life / that carries on with its own colors / beyond this premature break-in / into the sour face of memory

——————————

in verità qui non esiste
non esiste certo né assolutamente
esiste la vita parziale finché esiste
sbraitante all’angolo della strada
nel centro esatto dell’impermanenza
e allora è salvare, la necessità,
salvare l’incrocio di mani
che siamo stati

in fact here doesn’t exist / nor does absolutely or certainty / a partial life exists until it is / screaming at the corner of the street / at the exact center of impermanence / then to save, this is the need, / to save the junction of hands / what we have been

——————————

e se scrivo è per farti poesia
rimpastare la stagione sul tuo viso.
ci si salva e si muore,
ognuno a suo modo.
ogni giorno. ognuno come può

and if I write it is to make you poetry / to rework the season on your face. / everyone dies or is saved, / in their own way. / everyday, everyone as best they can

——————————

lungo la strada di casa un’ombra
non avevo mai visto tanta luce

e hai cominciato a ridere
a ridere di me, di noi, e stanavi viva

oltre gli acini violacei degli occhi
la mano, ti domandavo dove

cosa devo fare e la radio a farneticare,
la vita si è addormentata e noi

abbiamo ripreso a danzare

on the way home a shade / I had never seen such light // and you started to laugh / to laugh at me, at us, and you flushed out // a lively hand over the purplish berries / of your eyes, then I was asking you where // what should I do and the radio raving / life fell asleep and we // began dancing again

EPILOGO / EPILOGUE

non un tumulo la testa
nello sguainarmi dentro
il sangue sulle scale,
pensare che sondavo il morire
dov’è ora il mare

my head not a grave / I unsheathe myself inside / blood runs on the stair / thinking that I explored dying / where is the sea now
